Why Africa why?

By Dereck Tafuma
Africa is the richest continent in terms of natural resources. Why are its people the wretched of the planet? Why is income inequality so vast? Can a political solution bring about meaningful change or the ordinary citizens need to take charge? Political leaders have shown us that they're incapable of finding the right solutions for the challenges we have but we continue to place our faith in failed leadership. We watch as they wine and dine whilst unashamedly continuing to give false promises about the future.
The overwhelming condemnation against xenophobic attacks by Africans from Cape to Cairo is testimony that given a platform to express themselves, the African youth can take Africa in a new direction.
The liberation movements across the continent have played their part and should pave way for new ideas from the youth to tackle income and capital inequality. The black political elite lack the motivation to address economic disparities because they have primitively acquired excess wealth and do not appreciate the challenges being faced by ordinary citizens who place too much faith in politicians.
Do you think the youth are ready for a new Africa?
