NATHANIEL MANHERU IS WRONG ON URBAN STANDS

In a well written piece, Nathaniel Manheru argued that ZANUPF was justified to give stands to its youths because they had voted the 'correct way'. Does urban land belong to ZANUPF or to the state through the Harare City Council? A political party has no right to abuse state resources for the benefit of its members. Once elected into power, you become the president of all Zimbabweans, not just for your own political party. Your political party is given the mandate to manage the affairs of the state on behalf of all Zimbabweans.

ZANUPF has been abusing state resources to further its own power political ambitions and thus breaking the law. The rule of law is an important process which helps to foster a patriotic mindset amongst the subjects of the country called Zimbabwe. People should not be confused whether or not they should attend state functions. ZANUPF is not the state. It is one of many political parties and it does not own the security services, the reserve bank, or the land.

The police, the army, and the judiciary, owe allegiance to the people of Zimbabwe through state institutions. ZANUPF can abuse the advantage of incumbency to primitively accumulate capital, but we must remind them that they are breaking the law. The war of independence was not won by ZANUPF but by all Zimbabweans including our mothers and grandmothers who cooked for the comrades. Our sisters were sexually abused by some comrades, and some of our early teenage brothers killed by the enemy for fear they would soon join the other comrades. The struggle is own by all Zimbabweans and so is the new struggle for economic growth and development.

You cannot grow a robust economy through partisan distribution of state resources and breaking the law. You're making the beneficiaries vulnerable to due judicial process in the near future. The war of independence was not fought so that a few blacks could replace the few repressive whites and continue with the same abusive relationship. No. For Manheru to justify abusive lawlessness is beyond common sense and we must stop normalising it.

The ZANUPF 'youthiez' risk losing the stands they have been promised. Everyone knows it's a gimmick to register them as ZANUPF voters in 2018 but the economic fundamentals obtaining will not continue to support a ZANUPF which has relied on buying votes towards election time.
